Creating a contemporary bathroom

Whether you are ripping out your old bathroom, or simply redecorating your existing bathroom, a contemporary bathroom can be easier to create than you might think. But what should you consider when creating a contemporary bathroom? And how can you achieve outstanding results?

What are the considerations for creating a contemporary bathroom?

There are a number of considerations to take into account when creating a contemporary bathroom, including:

  • The colour scheme
  • The fixtures

What is a contemporary bathroom colour scheme?

As with any other bathroom design, the colour scheme is going to be one of the most important aspects to get right. Contemporary bathrooms tend to follow one of two paths. They are either neutral and natural coloured, or use one bold colour as a feature throughout.

  • Natural and neutral coloured – This is a stunning effect that can incorporate textures, such as natural stone tiles, or timber effect tiles. These textures can be mixed with beautiful white, or grey bathroom fixtures to create the perfect finish.
  • Bold colour- For this design, just one colour is chosen to be the key that unites all aspects of the room together. This can simply be a tiling or accessory colour, creating a feature wall and uniting the rest of the room to this with hints of the same colour. Alternatively, you can select and use a unique colour for the bathroom fixtures themselves. Grey is one of the popular colours to achieve this with.

What are contemporary bathroom fixtures?

If you are going for a whole new bathroom, removing your existing fixtures and installing new, you will want to choose contemporary fixtures. These can include a pedestal sink or a contemporary concealed shower enclosure. A free standing or corner bath can also be a good option.

When choosing contemporary fixtures, pay close attention to the shape. Gone are the decorative, scalloped edges. Instead you want something sleek, streamlined, and almost clinical.

Even if you are simply redecorating, changing your sink basin or toilet lid can add some contemporary touches to your bathroom.
