What is a composite kitchen worktop?

Here at Homematas, we are Preston’s leading kitchen design experts. From classic, traditional kitchens, to farmhouse and contemporary styles, we can offer something to suit every home, and all price points. The kitchen worktop is one of the key practical features and design elements of every kitchen. And a composite kitchen worktop can be a great choice for a range of kitchens, across a range of styles. But what is this? And why should you choose a composite kitchen worktop?

So, what is a composite kitchen worktop?

A composite worktop is created from around 90% natural quartz crystals mixed with a small percentage of binders. As a result, you might hear composite worktops referred to as ‘quartz composite’ or ‘engineered stone’ worktops. These can look stunning in a range of kitchens, from the most traditional, to the most contemporary. They are also incredibly practical.

Because of the way that the composite worktops are created, the surface colour and composition is entirely even and consistent. This is unlike natural stone, which often has variations in the colour and shading.

Durability

One of the advantages of composite worktops is the durability. The material is incredibly tough and resistant. Essentially, composite kitchen worktops come with a long warranty, and are:

  • non-porous
  • resistant to scratches- any scratches that do occur can be sanded out easily
  • stain resistant
  • resistant to heat damage

This makes them incredibly practical for use in the kitchen, where heat and water are both used frequently. It means that a composite worktop can be used effectively around the sink and close to the hob, without any problems.

Initial treatment

Composite worktops require no initial treatment at all, unlike hardwood worktops.

Maintenance

Composite worktops are easy to maintain. Simply wipe up spills to prevent marks and keep clean with a soft, damp cloth and a mild detergent.
